These third-party community events are planned, advertised and executed by people in our local community who wish to support the mission of Calvert Hospice.
Some examples of such events include:
The Poker Run for Calvert Hospice
For fourteen years, Chris Bowen and Heather Scott hosted the Poker Run in June to raise thousands of dollars in support of Calvert Hospice. Participants paid a fee to travel throughout Southern Maryland by motorcycle or car, making stops at different venues to pick up a card for ‘their hand’ and finish up back at their starting point. Participants ended their ride with a party, enjoying music by DJ Rick, great food, live auction, and door prizes. The 2019 Poker Run was held on October 5, 2019 and raised a total of $11,903.88, the most it’s ever raised! Calvert Hospice is so thankful to the Bowen and Scott families for their many years of hosting this event. Sadly, Chris Bowen passed away in 2020. His friends and family will be hosting a Memorial Ride on October 17 and will donate proceeds of the event to Calvert Hospice.
The 2019 Unique Boutique was held November 9 and 10 at Calvert High School. The event features fine art and a selection of crafts, all for purchase in time for the holiday season. Calvert Hospice had its own table of donated artwork and crafts for sale and raised over $600. We want to thank everyone who came and supported hospice in 2019. Stay tuned for updates on the 2020 event.
Asbury Solomons Mardi Gras
Each year, the residents of Asbury Solomons host a Mardi Gras to raise funds for Calvert Hospice. Attendees are treated to authentic Louisiana cuisine, swing music from the Chesapeake Swing Band, and an evening full of fun with friends. The 2020 event was held on February 22. We would like to thank all of the residents who attend and give generously to Calvert Hospice each year!
Michael D. Schrodel Golf Classic
The 17th Annual Michael D. Schrodel Golf Classic, organized by Teresa and Carmen Schrodel, was held on July 24, 2020 at the Cannon Club in Lothian. It is an annual event that raises money for Calvert Hospice and a scholarship fund at Frostburg State University. The 2020 event raised a total of $20,000! Participants can sign up as single golfers or as teams, and several sponsorship levels are available as well. Stay tuned for 2021 dates and registration information!
